Cancer Prevention – What Are The Benefits Of Consuming Linseed Oil?

Dr. Budwig knew that one necessity for cancer patients, in general, is energy. In her discoveries, she found that fresh and pressed linseed oil (also known as flaxseed oil) provided her patients with the needed energy.

Linseed Oil – Cancer Prevention And A Natural Treatment

According to her research, this is the only food that contains the carbon chain with three (3) double bonds.  However, she discovered that you could not get the full benefits of flaxseeds and linseed oil just by taking it on its own.  Dr. Budwig applied her background in chemistry and fats to the problem. She discovered that she could deliver the energizing benefits of this flaxseed oil very quickly into the bloodstream by blending it with Quark (German Cottage cheese) with 1 ½ tablespoon of milk.

Delicious And Healthy

She gave this delightful mixture, which she called ‘muesli,’ to her patients twice a day, once at breakfast and then again at noon. The best way to consume linseed or flaxseed oil is to mix it with six tablespoons of cottage cheese (Quark) 2% low-fat or less and three tablespoons of flaxseed oil. Also, you could replace the quark with six tablespoons of Whey if you have some intolerance to the ‘casein’ in the cottage cheese.

  1. I’ve been using the flax cottage cheese recipe for almost a week now and have seen an improvement in my energy level. I would like to know if after you have the cottage cheese and flax oil mixed can you add things like yogurt and cacao for flavor or will adding other ingredients change the chemical makeup of the protocol?
Have you had anyone share a testimony about Lyme’s Disease?
    Thank you CherylAnne

    1. Dear Cheryl,

Yes, as an additional separate step you can add any ingredients that are natural once the cottage cheese and flaxseed oil mixture is homogenous. You can find more information in our Free Guide about this. We have had only 2 Lyme’s disease patients and the feedback we have had from them show that they not only change their diet but also address the issue of pathogens, especially Borelia.

      Kind regards,
      Kathy L.J.

  2. Breast Cancer posters do not state the type of breast cancer.. Flaxseed oil is not recommended for estrogen positive patients, as it may exhibit estrogen enhancing properties. Please clarify. Thank you.

    1. Flaxseeds help balance the estrogen and progesterone naturally. I think one of the best explanations was given by Pam Stephan who I am now including here:
      Flaxseeds:

A Humble but Powerful Cancer-Fighting Grain
      Anticancer Benefits from Flax Seeds
      By Pam Stephan
      Updated May 30, 2012

Flaxseed, or linseed, is an ancient grain that may have originated in Egypt. The seeds, oil and seed meal can be used in many ways. Flaxseeds contain phytoestrogens, which may reduce your risk of breast cancer and possibly prevent a recurrence. The fibers from the flax plant have been used in linen fabric, yarns and bandages.

      Anticancer Action of Flaxseeds
Several studies have been done to determine how the phytoestrogens in flaxseeds may help cancer. The weak plant-based estrogens block the estrogen receptors on cells within breast tissue, starving them of full-strength female estrogen, possibly stopping tumor growth and preventing cell damage. This effect may be most effective for younger, premenopausal women with estrogen-receptor negative cancers. A clinical trial combining flaxseeds with a macrobiotic diet has been done by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. Among other goals, the study hopes to find out whether a macrobiotic diet that includes flaxseed will be beneficial during and after breast cancer therapy.

      Dietary Benefits from Flaxseeds
Flaxseeds have two anticancer components: lignans and an omega-3 fat called “alphalinolenic acid” (ALA). You may be familiar with flaxseeds as they are used as a natural laxative, a good source of dietary fiber and in preparations that help lower your cholesterol. Flaxseeds may also be helpful in reducing your risk of heart disease, osteoporosis, breast and endometrial cancers. Flaxseed oil has been used for the relief of hot flashes, breast pain, arthritis pain, and pain related to constipation.

      LACTOSE ISSUES:
It is important to mention that although women with breast cancer may benefit from freshly ground flaxseeds and flaxseed oil, if they mix it with cottage cheese they may have an issue with the dairy. Cow dairy products contain ‘casein’ which can cause inflammation in breast, lymphatic, prostate and brain cancer and therefore the mixture of flaxseed oil and cottage cheese is not advised. The BUDWIG CENTER would recommend other alternatives

  3. Dear,
Whaz do you recommend for breast cancer triple posotove, hormone positive ER and PR and HER2. I am reading above that we should not use cottage cheese, nor cow milk products. Is there enything else we can mix to worls as well as original DR Budwig reciepe?
Thank you very much for answer. Best wishes.

    1. Dear Jelena,

Thank you for contacting us with your question. Dr. Johanna Budwig was concerned about consuming too much animal products in general and Dairy products are not encourage in the Budwig Diet, especially if you have cancer or any chronic illness. For a healthy person consuming the occasional amount of dairy, goat or sheep dairy would be the best option.
As for the best ingredient to be used to mix with the flaxseed oil, the cottage cheese, quark or requesón are the only types of cheese that have the sulfurated protein (not found in yoghurt, kefir or other dairy products) Remember to use a cottage cheese or quark with NO added sugar and no more than 2% fat. Once the mixture has become homogenous, some do add a little goat or sheep kefir or yoghurt to the mixture for texture and this would be OK. This type of dairy product, when mixed with the flaxseed oil becomes beneficial and actually regulates the hormones.
Flaxseeds and flaxseed oil has its nutritional benefits but if a cancer patient doesn’t have an intolerance to dairy, taking these ingredients with cottage cheese is recommended. Please download the free guide to learn how to prepare the Budwig mix.
      Kind regards,
      Kathy L.J.

    1. Dear Lin,
Thank you for contacting us with your question. Both quark and cottage cheese are acceptable to prepare the Budwig mix with flaxseed oil as long as they have no added sugar and have no more than 2% fat. If you can find one of these without additives, and organic, that would be the best option to use when preparing this recipe

      Kind regards,
      Kathy L.J.

    1. Dear Lin,

We haven’t studied the differences nor do we make reference to this. I don’t understand the reason for the question. Dr. Budwig used quark, as this was available in Germany and the equivalent for the rest of the world where cottage cheese is not available is cottage cheese. Then, there are varieties with more or less fat content, so we tell you to find one with no more than 2% fat to prepare the Budwig muesli. I hope this is helpful.

    1. Dear Michael,

Thank you for contacting us with your question. You can certainly take the mixture of flaxseed oil and cottage cheese but you would not add the seeds, not even ground. These could be too irritating for you colon and rectal tract. You can add 1 extra tablespoon of the oil. There are also many other suggestions we would give you to treat your cancer. Have you been able to download the Free guide we offer you online?

If you are interested in any of our therapies or treatments please let me know how we can help.
      Kind regards,

    1. Dear Elvis,

Thank you for contacting us with your question. I hope you have downloaded our Free Guide that explains how to prepare the Budwig mix, any warnings and many other suggestions for cancer patients. Many think that Dr. Budwig only gave her patients the cottage cheese and flaxseed oil but she did much more and so do we. You can start with the diet and this mixture. Only if there is any type of hemorrahging do we warn aboutnot taking this recipe. So if that is not your case you can certainly eat it.

If you are at all interested in other treatments we offer please let us know how we can help you.
      Kind regards,
      Kathy L.J.

    1. Dear Barbara,

Thank you for contacting us with your question. Both quark and cottage cheese are dairy products and have sulfurated proteins. Most of the countried in Europe have quark but the rest of the world following this protocol is using cottage cheese.

      Kind regards,

  4. Kathy,

For those with a dairy intolerance, can goat milk cottage cheese be used as a substitute providing it has 2% or less fat?

    Thank you,

  5. Kathy,
What about women who suffer from heavy periods because of fibroids in the uterine wall? Will the flaxseed oil/cottage cheese mixture cause heavier bleeding?
    Nia

    1. Kathy Jenkins

      Dear Nia,

This mixture should not be taken by a person 7 days before surgery or that has any type of internal bleeding as it thins the blood. The weeks that a person is not on their period, they would certainly benefit from the mixture as well as the whole diet and protocol.

      Kind regards,

      Kathy L.J.

  6. Been eating museli for ~35 years. Its delicious and healthy in my opinion.
Here is our formula: for two people, blend the cottage cheese, ~15-20cc (one tablespoon) of cold pressed flax seed oil, with a banana or two, a lemon, dash of honey and top of walnuts, fresh or dried fruit, berries, etc.
My parents in law were personally evaluated by dr Budwig prob in the 1970’s. Their successes with the “Budwig Plan” was proof enough for me.
Dr Budwig was way ahead of her time.

  7. Hello Kathy,
I have a question about content of nickel in flax seed oil. I have nothing nickel allergy and I was told that I can’t take seeds and nuts since they are too high in nickel. Would it be the same with flax seed or not? Thank you very much.

    1. Kathy Jenkins

      Dear Kristina,

Thank you for asking this question. Flaxseed oil comes from the seed and you wouldn’t be the first person we have found allergic to flax seed. We personalize our treatment at the clinic and we have to accept that this recipe isn’t going to be beneficial for 100% of the population. The rest of the suggestions in the Budwig diet will certainly be good for you.

      Kind regards,

    1. Kathy Jenkins

      Dear Jane,

It certainly is. Another recipe you can take with brain cancer is the following one: During 6 months take 125ml of French champagne or Spanish Cava. The Label should say: Brut Nature and should have no added sugar. Add 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseeds. Take this once a day 10 minutes before eating.

      Kind regards,

  8. Bernard Mylonas

I am 69 years old. I was diagnosed with B Cell Lymphoma stage 4 in march 2016. I went through the typical American treatment, 6 rounds of Chemo and 28 days of radiation. Without telling my Oncologist I took daily Dr. Budwig Protocol. I had my last PET Scan 2 months ago and to the surprise of the US Oncologist, I am officially in full remission.

I do not want the cancer to come back. I would like to continue Dr. Budwig protocol on a daily basis for the rest of my life. Is it safe?

Thank you for your help in this matter.

    1. Kathy Jenkins

      Dear Bernard,

That is great news!! Congratulations!! The Budwig diet is excellent for anyone striving for optimum health as well as a person diagnosed with a chronic illness that needs to keep a strict eye on his nutrition and limit toxin intake. Doing your best to stick to the principles of this diet will certainly help you stay healthy.

  9. Hi Kathy,

I have breast cancer. I am interested in Budwig mix. But, in one of your post, you mentioned:” It is important to mention that although women with breast cancer may benefit from freshly ground flaxseeds and flaxseed oil, if they mix it with cottage cheese they may have an issue with the dairy. Cow dairy products contain ‘casein’ which can cause inflammation in breast, lymphatic, prostate and brain cancer and therefore the mixture of flaxseed oil and cottage cheese is not advised. The BUDWIG CENTER would recommend other alternatives”.

So, since the mixture of flaxseed oil and cottage cheese is not advised, what’s the other alternatives that the BUDWIG CENTER would recommend?

Please reply back to me as soon as you can. I really need your help.

    Thank you very much!

    1. Kathy Jenkins

      Dear Kim,

Thank you for contacting us to clarify this point as it is an important one. The Budwig mixture does wonders to people that don’t have an issue with dairy or inflammation caused by dairy. In our experience, patients with cancer in the lymph, brain, ovaries, prostate or breast are more likely to have issues with inflammation and IF this is your personal case and you are having this reaction, then we would not recommend you continue taking the Budwig mixture. First you can try it and see if you notice more inflammation or a bloated feeling in your gut.

We can’t say that this food will be good for 100% of cancer patients so if one cannot take it, they would rely on the rest of the diet, protocol and other natural remedies we would find suitable for them. Have you downloaded the Free Guide we offer? Here is describes the diet as well as the whole approach as Dr. Budwig did more than give this recipe to her cancer patients.

As for your other questions, grind the seeds yourself and consume the seeds and oil on their own in your salads and shakes. Let me know if I can help you further.

      Kind regards,

  10. Hi Kathy,

I’d like to know if there is a particular herb suplement or aspect of this diet that is particularly relevant in the prevention of oral carcinoma. I was diagnosed with carcinoma of the tongue two and a half years ago and I’ve already had two rellapses (one of them on the neck) and undergone several surgery procedures (not radiotherapy for the moment). The problem is that after removing the carcinoma, a benign lesion reappears on the same área and over time becomes malign. According to my oncologist this is an autoimmune problem with a high level of recurrence. Hence my question, as I’ve been following the Budwig diet on and off (but always following its main recommendations) since first diagnosed and never drank or smoked.
Thanks in advance for your help
    Eva

    1. Dear Eva,

Thank you for sending us your question. It is likely that you would benefit from essential oils since these can be taken orally. At the clinic we personalize the remedies a patient received by performing a test to see which remedies will be the most efficient at that time for their body. Usually a cancer patient doesn’t need the same remedies for years and years but rather only for a month or two. (except for homeopathic protocols). So we use the Vega testing device and you can read more about it here: Test Vega and GSR scan

  11. Dear Kathy,
Would the Budwig mixture be suitable for someone with multiple myeloma and no known dairy intolerance?
Has your clinic ever treated anyone with multiple myeloma and if so were your protocols effective?

    1. Hello Diana,

Thank you for contacting us. Yes it would be a good idea to take the Budwig muesli once or twice a day as well as following the protocol for any patient with cancer or wanting to improve their health. I hope you have successfully downloaded the free guide we offer online. We have treated a few patients with multiple myeloma at the clinic with the help of the research from Dr. Johanna Budwig we can address the root cause of any type of cancer.

We will send you more information privately.

  12. Hi Kathy,

Is it possible that the cottage cheese and Flaxseed recipe could cause piles or hemorroides? I have noticed that the thickness of the recipe is making stool a little harder to pass.

    1. Dear Jake,

Thank you Jake for that excellent question. Normally when people follow the entire Budwig program as we outline here at the Budwig Center they do not have any of the problems you mentioned. For example we encourage all our patients to drink at least 2 liters of spring water daily and first thing in the morning to eat several servings of fresh fruit. Also our program includes daily mini trampoline exercise. When all these recommendations are followed rarely would someone have any constipation issues. If you need more help to understand the full Budwig protocol please contact us directly.

      King Regards

  13. Hi Kathy,

Your guide states to mix the flax oil and cottage cheese in a blender or with a hand-held mixer on low speed. Would I also be able to use a small blender that is for making smoothies? The mixture is very thick using this method.

    1. Dear Deb,

Thank you for sending us this question. The hand blender is ideal and if after getting a homogenous texture you decide to add some water, oat milk, almond milk or any other beneficial ingredient, that can be done as well. If you really prefer to use a different type of blender and are able to get a completely homogenous texture then that is fine.

      Kind regards,

  16. Hi Kathy,

I was diagnosed with Stage III Follicular Lymphoma and on April 18, you posted:

[Cow dairy products contain ‘casein’ which can cause inflammation in breast, lymphatic, prostate and brain cancer and therefore the mixture of flaxseed oil and cottage cheese is not advised. The BUDWIG CENTER would recommend other alternatives]

What other alternatives would you recommend? I ate the Budwig Quark for about a year, and after awhile, I started to feel “clogged up”, and listening to my body, I stopped eating it.

  17. Christine Gergich

    Dear Kathy,
Happy New Year!!! I found Budwig website, a few years ago. I have M.S. since 1992, I am 52years old. Have you heard any patients taking the diet of flaxseed oil and cottage cheese?? Thank you ever sooo much!!!!
    Sincerely,
    Christine in N.J.

    1. Dear Christine, thank you for writing us. Dr. Budwig’s findings were about so much more than just adding the mixture of flaxseed oil and cottage cheese to the diet. I hope you have been able to download the free guide we offer on our home page to understand more about it.

The diet indications are beneficial to prevent illness and optimum health as well as to balance the body when it is unbalanced, like in the case of a sickness/diagnosis and this is why it is recommended for cancer patients and all illnesses really. We have heard of all kinds of patients benefitting from it and although we mainly take care of cancer patients at our clinic, we would strongly recommend you take on the information about how to balance your life with the Budwig protocol. We are sure it will make a difference in your health.

      Kind Regards
      Kathy Jenkins

  18. Hi,
I have a friend who had breast cancer and, after traditional treatments, tried flaxseed as it is well documented to be breast cancer protective. However, in her case, her cancer markers increased, she stopped the flaxseed and the markers went down. So I think Margaret Haines has a point and as the fat is the main ingredient maybe for those persons we could use chia instead of flax. But this must be studied.
    Thank you for your work.
    Paulo

    1. Thank you for your feedback Paolo.

In general flaxseeds and its oil have helped balance woman’s hormones and the reason for this person’s cancer markers increasing and decreasing can be related to many things, not only the oil in take. Also, cancer markers in blood are not the most reliable data to know one’s actual cancer activity. Having said that, we do acknowledge that some patients are allergic to flaxseed and its oil. There are very few that don’t benefit from taking this mixture but basically, Dr. Budwig’s protocol is about eliminating toxins, bad sugars and fats and replacing these with acceptable ones for our health and nutrition. Thank you for sharing, and yes, we acknowledge that personalizing the treatment is always necessary.

      Kind regards,
      Kathy Jenkins

  19. Frankie Cleaveland

Is the flaxseed and cottage cheese mixture beneficial for lung cancer if diet does not change? My dad was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma for the second time. Doctor said lungs were not good enough for surgery. I have him doing the cottage cheese and flax 6 times daily 2:1 ratio. Getting him to change his diet is the hard part. My mom cooks what he wants. Just curious if it was going to do any good or be a waste of time.

    1. Dear Frankie,

It is a healthy food to add to his diet and it is better he does this as to making NO changes to his diet. To address the reason the body is producing cancer cells and help the body regain balance though, a multi-faceted approach is best and there is much more that he should be willing to look at changing in addition to his diet. Maybe get him to read the free guide we offer on our home page.

      Kind regards,
      Kathy L. Jenkins

  20. Hi Kathy, i have an inoperable brain tumour.
I have declined Radiation therapy (which didn’t go down to well with the hospital) in favour of a whole food plant based diet.
Can you recommend a budwig therapy i can follow along with my new eating regime please?
    Thanks
    Tony

    1. Dear Tony, there are many things to look at in addition to the diet, such as: spending time out in the sun, in nature, treating emotional stresses, cleaning out your environment, proper use of electronic devices. We also focus on helping your body detox and seeing what natural, food and herb-based remedies will help your body gain balance. We can help you if you contact us by email: [email protected]
