What is Throat Cancer?

Throat cancer includes cancer of the nasopharynx (the upper part of the throat behind the nose), the oropharynx (the middle part of the pharynx), and the hypopharynx (the bottom part of the pharynx). Cancer of the larynx (voice box) may also be included as a type of throat cancer. Throat Cancer forms in tissues of the pharynx (the hollow tube inside the neck that starts behind the nose and ends at the top of the windpipe and esophagus). We have observed that most throat cancers are squamous cell carcinomas (cancer that begins in thin, flat cells that look like fish scales). You might note that it is also called pharyngeal cancer.

What Are The Symptoms of a Throat Cancer?

The Budwig Center has found that unfortunately, some of the early symptoms of throat cancer are fairly general and, therefore, can easily be confused for some other condition or illness. Just the same some of the common symptoms that you may suffer from and should therefore contact our Clinic would be:

If you suffer from chronic earaches
If you suffer from chronic sore throat
If you have difficulty speaking
You notice enlarged lymph nodes
You have feelings of numbness in the face
You experience hoarse voice
You have pain when swallowing
And if you notice visible sores in the mouth or on the tongue.

It must be clarified that although some may write off these symptoms as a simple sore throat, the flu or even a serious case of the common cold, the key difference between milder conditions and the presence of throat cancer is how long these symptoms last.
