Testicular Cancer Alternative Treatments
What is Testicular Cancer?
As the name implies this is a Cancer that forms in tissues of the testis (one of two egg-shaped glands inside the scrotum that make sperm and male hormones). The Budwig Center has noted that for some reason, testicular cancer usually occurs in young or middle-aged men. Two main types of testicular cancer are seminomas (cancers that grow slowly and are sensitive to radiation therapy) and nonseminomas (different cell types that grow more quickly than seminomas).
What are the symptoms of Testicular Cancer?
What is the most common; in fact more than ninety percent of patients present with a painless lump or mass in the testicle. Very often also patients may also notice a sensation of heaviness in the scrotum or lower abdominal aching. Then also scrotal enlargement or swelling is also common in patients with testicular cancer. But having said that some patients with testicular cancer have no symptoms at all, especially in the early stage. The Budwig Center has found that their cancer may be found incidentally during routine physical exams, such as ultra sound test or biopsy for diagnosis of infertility.
It should also be noted that even with metastatic disease (when cancer has spread to other organs), only about 25% of patients may experience symptoms related to the metastasis before the diagnosis. And the most common place for the disease spread is to the lymph nodes in the posterior part of the abdomen. Therefore, it is especially important to take note of constant lower back pain as this is a frequent symptom of later-stage testicular cancer. Then again, if the cancer has spread to the lungs, cough, chest pain, and/or shortness of breath can occur. Also hemoptysis (sputum with blood) may also develop. Here is a summary of the main symptoms:
- A dull ache in the lower abdomen, back, or in the groin
- A feeling of heaviness in the scrotum
- Discomfort or pain in a testicle or in the scrotum
- Enlargement or tenderness of the breasts
- A lump or mass in either testicle
- Any enlargement or swelling of a testicle
- A collection of fluid in the scrotum
